A COURT date has been set to evict travellers who have set up camp in Pewfall Park.

The group were served with legal papers on Monday afternoon, which gave them 24 hours to leave the Haydock park.

It is the second time in a matter of weeks that travellers have set up camp at Pewfall Park, although it is unclear if it is the same group.

A council spokesman told the Local Democracy Reporter Service that it has set a court date for later in the week in order to obtain an eviction notice in the event the group do not leave.

The council will also seek to, if necessary, obtain an eviction notice for travellers who have set up camp in Sherdley Park.

A council spokesman said: “We are aware of the issue and are working through the necessary legal steps to remove the groups as soon as possible, using the powers available to us.

“A Section 77 notice was issued to the group at Sherdley Park on Monday morning, following a site visit.

“Notice has also been given to the group at Pewfall Park, and we will be monitoring the situation closely.

“If the groups fail to leave and eviction is required, the council has already organised a court hearing for later this week to secure eviction notices.”
