TRAVELLERS have been given notice to leave Sherdley Park – days after being served with legal papers at Haresfinch Park.

The group, who are believed to be from France, set up camp on Haresfinch Park on Wednesday.

Despite being served with a Section 77 notice by St Helens Council officers on Thursday, which required them to leave the site within 24 hours, the group did not leave until the weekend.

On Saturday evening a group of caravans then pitched up on Sherdley Park.

A council spokesman has now confirmed to the Local Democracy Reporter Service that a fresh Section 77 notice has been served to the group this morning (Monday).

The spokesman also confirmed that the travellers are the same group that were given notice to leave Haresfinch Park.

A council spokesman said: “We are aware of the issue and are working through the necessary legal steps to remove the group as soon as possible, using the powers available to us.

“A Section 77 notice has been issued following a site visit this morning, and we will be monitoring the situation closely.

“If the group fails to leave and eviction is required, the council has already organised a court hearing for later this week.”
