HERE are eight community events coming up around the area in the near future:

  • Bird watcher invite

BIRD watchers are invited to grab their binoculars for two walks around Taylor Park.
On Wednesday, May 30, staff from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) will be demonstrating how to make bird feeders, as rangers lead two walks around the park pointing out different species of birds.
The event is from 11am to 3pm, with people asked to meet at the boathouse. 
Rangers request no dogs for the walks.

  • Crafting fun 

A CRAFTS fair will be held at Willow Park in Newton-le-Willows for Bank Holiday Monday fun. 
Rangers will hold the event on Monday, May 28 from noon to 5pm and will showcase various techniques and ancient ways of working, including stonemasonry and hurdle making with other attractions including birds of prey and ferret racing.

  • Walking invite

RAMBLERS are invited to join in one of three graded walks in Ingleton, Yorkshire.
The event is being hosted by St Helens Group of the Rambling Association Walks on Saturday, June 2. It will include three graded walks between six and 12 miles.
It will cost £15 for non-members of the group, which will include coach travel from the centre of St Helens.

  • Eyes down

RESIDENTS are invited to take part in some Summer Bingo fund next month.
St Ann’s Millennium Centre will be hosting the event on Friday, June 8 from 7.45pm.

  • Bishop’s visit

THE auxiliary bishop of Liverpool will lead three Visitation Masses at Our Lady, Help of Christians Church, Portico.
Rt Revd Thomas Williams will give a service from 6.30pm on Saturday, May 26 and at 9am and 10.30am on Sunday.

  • Fundraising walk

A FAMILY friendly walking event in support of stroke survivors and their families will take place in Taylor Park. 
The Stroke Association is hosting the Step out for Stroke fundraising walk at 11am on Thursday, June 21, which is suitable for all ages and abilities, and help survivors in regaining independence.  The day will also include information stands by services including the St Helens Carers Centre.

  • Reach for the stars

STARGAZERS are invited to get involved with the revived St Helens Astronomical Society, which was originally founded in 1999. 
People interested are asked to attend a meeting at the Seven Stars pub, Eccleston at 7pm on May 27.

  • Race evening

A CHARITY race night is being held at 8pm on Friday, June 1 at The Owls Nest, Haydock.
All proceeds are for the St Helens scouts jamboree fund. A signed Saints shirt will be auctioned. Admission is free. The event is not for children.
