POLICE are investigating reports children as young as 12 started a fire in a park on Sunday night.
The fires broke out in Sherdley Park on Saturday, officers said.
Police urged parents to check on their children's whereabouts.
A police statement read: "If your child came home smelling of smoke maybe good idea to find out why?"
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed that crews were called to the park at around 8pm.
Firefighters tackled what was described as a "small" blaze which involved a "quantity of rubbish and wood on fire".
A Merseyside Police spokeswoman added that no arrests have yet been made in connection with the fires.
Anyone with information can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
