HERE are a series of upcoming community events happeneing around St Helens.

  • Get in tune

PEOPLE are invited to join a choir which meets at the Hope Centre.
New members, especially men, are wanted for the choir which gathers on most Wednesday mornings from 9.30am to 11am at the Hope Centre, Atherton Street, St Helens.
Drinks are provided with a short tea break at meetings.
The choir is also looking at starting to do performances around the area.

  • Grab a bargain

HAVE a look at the bargains on offer as a rummage sale is held at the West Street Independent Methodist Church on Friday (May 18).
The sale will take place from 6.30pm in the church hall. Admission is 20p.

  • Choir music

ENJOY the sounds of choral music with a lunchtime performance at the United Reformed Church in June. 
The St Helens Ladies’ Choir is to sing from 1pm on Wednesday, June 20 at the church on Ormskirk Street. 
Admission is free but there will be a retiring collection in aid of two worthwhile charities, The Sepsis Trust UK and Young Minds.
Meanwhile, the choir is also performing a concert across the Pennines at Otley Parish Church, near Leeds on Friday, June 8 with free admission and a retiring collection in aid of church funds. 

  • Comedy fun

THEATRE fans are invited to watch a comedy called Ladies’ Day at Rainhill Village Hall.
Tickets are available for the showing at 7.30pm, with shows availale from today, Thursday, May 17 to Saturday, May 19.

  • Gardening delight 

RESIDENTS are invited to attend the next annual meeting of the Newton-le-Willows Gardeners Association. 
The event will include a talk called From Wilderness to Home and Garden.
It will be held at on Newton Sports and Cricket Club on Crow Lane East on Thursday, May 31 from 7.30pm. 
The speaker will be chairman Malcolm Greenhalgh.
There will also be a raffle and there is no admission charge.
All are welcome to attend.

  • Blacksmiths Day 

CELEBRATE International Blacksmiths’ Day by watching live demonstrations at the Smithy Heritage Centre on Saturday.
The Eccleston centre will be hosting the annual event again on Saturday, May 19.
Demonstrations will include blacksmithing, wheelwrighting, wood turning, spinning and weaving. 
There will be real ales, cider, a hog roast, soft drinks, tea and coffee and Burchall’s pies available and people can enjoy the museum’s Visions of Another World exhibition. 
The day will be held from noon to 10pm, with demonstrations until 5pm.

BARGAIN hunters are invited to a rummage sale tomorrow, Friday. 
West Street Independent Methodist Church in Thatto Heath will be holding the event on Friday, May 18 at 6.30pm in the church hall.
