THE parents of Violet-Grace Youens have been invited to the royal wedding this Saturday in recognition of their work spreading awareness of organ donation and the dangers of speeding.

Four-year-old Violet-Grace died in her parents arms on Saturday, March 25 last year after she was struck in a hit-and-run on Prescot Road.

Her parents Glenn and Becky Youens, from Eccleston, have worked tirelessly since her death spreading awareness of organ donation – after Violet saved two lives by donating her pancreas and kidneys – and hosting talks on speed awareness.

The pair, who also have a two-year-old son Oliver, have now been recognised for their hard work in making a legacy for their beloved Violet-Grace, by being invited to the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday, May 19 in London.

Around 1,200 people have been invited to Windsor Castle for the event in recognition of contributions to their communities, with St Helens Council nominating Becky and Glenn to have that honour.

Glenn, 30, said: "It's good to know that the message is going to the right people and that Violet's name will live on.

"Violet loved princesses and happy endings like most little girls and we know that she will be with us in spirit – we always called her our beautiful little princess.

"We are amazed to be invited to an event like this, but to us it shows that Violet's legacy is carrying on and the messages about organ donation and not speeding are getting out there.

"We feel really honoured. It's a once in a lifetime experience to get an invite like this, but we would also love to not be in a position to be invited and have our Violet-Grace at home.

"We are invited, but we must recognise the fantastic work by everyone who has helped us and supports us, like everyone at Violet-Grace's Gift, who have helped make Violet's legacy."

Glenn and Becky set up a charity called Violet-Grace's Gift in memory of their 'superhero' daughter and are raising funds through taking on cycling and running challenges, which will support bereaved parents.

They have joined forces with the Isabella Rose Foundation, set up by Amanda and Geoff Parr whose daughter was born stillborn in 2011.
