PUB chain Punch Taverns, who own the boarded up Royal Alfred in the town centre, say they are aiming to reopen the venue.
The pub on Bickerstaffe Street, close to St Helens Central rail station, closed its doors this spring – with Vacant Property Services signs put up outside the building.
The closure has been lamented by Star readers and led to speculation over the building's future.
The Alfred had a thriving live music scene in the 1980s and was a popular spot with rail passengers who would call for a pint before or after their journey.
Venue owners Punch said: "We've spoken to the area manager and we are reviewing all options and speaking to potential publicans.
"We are hoping to potentially get it reopened."
