THIS is the moment 12 doves were released in memory of former Saints player Roy Haggerty.

His wife Wendy and youngest son Leon-Roy watched the tribute – in celebration of Roy's former shirt number – following today's funeral at St Mary's Lowe House Church.

Hundreds, some wearing Saints and Everton shirts, turned up at Lowe House St Mary's Church to pay respects to the former Great Britain international, who played for Saints between 1979-91.

A hearse carrying his coffin arrived at Lowe House Church shortly before 1pm.

A piper led the procession to the church with a rendition of Danny Boy.

The crowds broke into applause as the hearse stopped outside the church and again when the 12 doves were released.
