TWO musical sisters said it was an honour to perform in front of the Queen for her birthday celebrations.

Francesca Davies, 20, and her sister Catalina, 14, from Newton-le-Willows, played their banjo instruments with fellow members of the George Formby Society at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Monarch's 92nd birthday.

They shared the stage on the night with acts such as Sir Tom Jones, Sting, Kylie Minogue and the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Liverpool Hope University Performing Arts student Francesca said: "It was an absolute honour and pleasure to perform in front of the Queen.

"We have performed at a number of gigs across the North West and at some nice venues but this was the best experience we have had.

"The pair of us have been members of the George Formby Society for 13 years and it is something we will keep doing along with our own gigs.

"To be selected out of more than 1,000 people across the country was great."

The event took place on Saturday, April 21.

Catalina was also grateful to play in front of the Royal Family.

She said: "It was amazing to play for the Queen.

"Not many people get the opportunity to do that so I feel really (lucky) to have done that."

Francesca and Catalina's dad Ivor, 73, has a strong interest and was once a roadie in the 1960s for the band Life and Soul.

He said: "I am very proud to have two very talented children.

"They are both very versatile and perform at a range of gigs such as Armed Forces events, 1970s acts such as The Eagles and Amy Winehouse."

The sisters perform music from the 1940s up to present day at a range of gigs and have plans to set up a band together.
