A NEW planning application seeking permission to bulldoze a former social club premises and create 24 homes has been drawn up.

Proposals to demolish the buildings at the site of the former Broad Oak Social Club on Boardmans Lane have been submitted to the council.

Proposals include plans for 14 two-bedroom semi-detached houses; two three-bedroom semi-detached homes and eight walk-up apartments. All proposed homes are to be two-storey buildings.

There would be provision for two parking spaces per house and one space per apartment, with a private garden for each.

Plans state the only access to the brownfield will be via Chancery Lane.

The proposals have been submitted by agents JDA Architects on behalf of applicants Kathy Poole and Ian Hebblethwaite.

The applicants said in the plans: "The application fulfils the Local Plan as it aims to deliver high-quality homes on previously developed land and is considered to be of great benefit to the area’s regeneration".

Plans claim there are "enough local services already in place to support the amount of proposed development".

They add the layout will see "two and four unit buildings", to be "grouped into two strips", one along the eastern boundary of the site and another along the western boundary.

The applicants added: "The proposed development will provide high quality housing that has been designed to fit cohesively with the scale and character of the local area of Broad Oak, whilst improving the overall street scene".

Plans are on public consultation until Monday, May 14.
