TV personality and presenter Piers Morgan has given George Mathias £1,000 – so he doesn't have to run with him.

The Good Morning Britain presenter had been nominated to run a mile with the 11-year-old fundraiser by his co-host Susanna Reid. But after admitting he was not a keen runner – the former Daily Mirror newspaper editor told viewers he would offer a donation instead.

George, from Eccleston, is currently running one mile for every month he had with his brother James to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

It is to say thanks to them for saving his little brother's life.

The De La Salle pupil has had an exciting weekend after not only running a mile with Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna, but also running with Peter Andre – before having breakfast in his home on Friday and running around the Saints' Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday with the players.

Yesterday, Monday, April 23, Susanna nominated Piers to run a mile with George, but the presenter said: "Here's what I'll do...I'll give you a cheque for £1,000 of my money to not run with you.

"He gets not to run with me, tick, raise money for charity, tick and I don't have to get chapped thighs and bleeding legs and broken elbows.

"So everyone's a winner."

The £1,000 has already been deposited into George's fundraising account, which has currently raised more more than £60,000.
