A MAN charged in connection with an assault that has left another man in a critical condition has appeared in court.

Mark Lewis, 34, from Hargreaves Street, Parr has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

It follows an incident that happened shortly before 10pm on Saturday at Broad Oak Road, Parr.

Lewis appeared before Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning.

He was remanded into custody after the hearing and the case has been sent to Liverpool Crown Court where Lewis will next appear on Thursday, May 24.

A 35-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the incident and is in a critical condition in hospital.

Officers sealed off the road following reports of an attack.

DCI John Middleton said: “An investigation is under way into the circumstances of what took place but we are in the very early stages and would appeal to anyone with any information to contact us.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Broad Oak Road who may have seen anything or has any information which could assist the investigation to contact us.”

A cordon was in place around Broad Oak Road, Bramwell Road and Boardmans Lane while forensic examinations were carried out.

Lewis will appear at Knowsley, Liverpool and St Helens Adult Remand court, Derby Square, this morning Monday, April 23, 2018.
