A 35-YEAR-OLD man remains in a critical condition in hospital after an assault last night.

Officers sealed off Broad Oak Road just before 10pm yesterday, Saturday, following reports of an attack.

A cordon around Broad Oak Road, Bramwell Road and Boardmans Lane remains in place for forensic examinations to be carried out.

A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries and is in a critical condition.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of s18 assault and is currently in custody where he will be questioned by detectives.

An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the area.

DCI John Middleton said: “An investigation is under way into the circumstances of what took place tonight but we are in the very early stages and would appeal to anyone with any information to contact us.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Broad Oak Road who may have seen anything or has any information which could assist the investigation to contact us.”
