POLICE are to step up patrols following reports of bogus workmen targeting elderly residents and charging inflated prices after offering to do simple tasks.
Officers say reports have been received of incidents in the Whiston area, and also in Halewood.
Knowsley Police said they are giving support to one elderly victim, who has handed over a "significant amount of cash" for work.
They added: "We are looking to increase awareness about this in the area with local officers patrolling on the ground, providing reassurance to residents whilst attending properties to give out crime prevention advice and making sure residents are taking every available precaution to keep them out.
"Please look out for your neighbour or family member to ensure vigilance whilst reporting any suspicious activity or noting down vehicle details and contacting us asap so we can put a stop to this."
