WORK on a long-awaited new medical centre in Eccleston is set to start next Monday, April 23.

The plans have been subject to delays, with the general practice having been situated in the car park of Christ Church on Chapel Lane.

However, St Helens Clinical Commissioning Group and The Emerson Group, who are building the site, are confirmed that works are due to commence on building Eccleston Medical Centre.

The new building will be situated on Knowsley Road on land near the Sainsbury’s store, which is next to the Eccleston Grange housing development off Millfields.

The overall site boasts a number of other retail units and its own parking.

St Helens CCG has clarified that the plan will be for practice users to share this parking area, rather than a new car park being created.

Eccleston Medical Centre is currently located in a portable building in the grounds of Eccleston Christ Church Hall.

A statement from St Helens CCG said: "The practice is delighted that they will now eventually move into purpose built premises.

"Works will commence on the April 23. It is anticipated this will be a nine-month build with time built in for the internal fit out and mobilisation.

"It is hoped the practice will be relocating in early spring 2019."
