CYCLING legend Sir Bardley Wiggins will host a black-tie event at Saints’ stadium to support a daring 3,000 cycle challenge in aid of the Steve Prescott Foundation.

Race Across Europe will see an eight-man team tackle the endurance race starting on July 3 which will involve cycling non-stop 24 hours a day in an effort to set a six-day record.

The team hopes to raise £60,000, with Team K3 Zadara sponsoring them.

The squad includes Neil Prescott, brother of Steve; ex-Saints winger Steve Hall; former rugby league stars Gareth Ellis, Steve Hampson and Ewan Dowes; GB Triathlete Phil Ellison, Ironman Darren Harrison and cycling coach Kev Humphries.

Tour de France and Olympic champion Sir Bradley Wiggins will host the evening at Saints’ stadium on Saturday, June 16 in support.

Sir Bradley said: “I am elated to be able to support The Steve Prescott Foundation and this epic challenge. I met Steve at the Sports Personality Awards a few years ago and have always followed his herculean efforts.

"Sadly Steve is no longer with us but the Prescott family and ambassadors have continued his legacy.

"I am honoured that I can do my bit to help this great charity and it promises to be a fantastic evening.

"I am really looking forward to seeing my friend Steve Hampson on the dancefloor. He definitely shaped better on the rugby pitch.”

Mike Denning, chairman of the SPF, added: “We would like to thank all the Team at K3 Zadara for making this fantastic challenge possible with their generous sponsorship.

"This is a challenge that is in ethos of the SPF, the great man Steve Prescott would have relished this opportunity to test his body to the limit.

"We would also like to thank Sir Bradley for his time and support of our team.

"His support and guidance has been invaluable so far and like ourselves he is passionate about helping those less fortunate than ourselves.”

The night will include a meal and tribute band the Phonics. Tickets are £75 or £700 for a table of 10.
