THE vital work of guide dogs is being celebrated for National Puppy Day.

The charity Guide Dogs, which help people with sight loss, rely on support to help people in the community.

With Guide Dogs' Name a Puppy scheme, workplaces, clubs or groups could choose a name for a life-changing guide dog puppy and sponsor them through their first year of training.

That support will set them off on their training journey to become a fully-fledged guide dog for someone who has lost their sight.

As well as receiving updates on the puppy’s progress through socialisation training they will also receive photographs and can meet the puppy.

A young person’s version of Name a Puppy is also available for schools and youth groups to take part in.

Angela Lewis, area manager from Caffe Nero, who have recently named their second guide dog puppy, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed supporting Guide Dogs over the last few years.

"Lewis is our second pup and we are looking forward to meeting him very soon.

"Our first pup Nero is now in early training and we have loved watching him grown from a puppy to a life changing guide dog of the future!’."

Lynette Proctor, engagement officer from Guide Dogs added: “It’s National Puppy Day and we are celebrating our incredible puppies and dogs.

"Our life-changing guide dog partnerships are only made possible through the support of local businesses, schools, community groups and individuals.

"With the lifetime cost of each guide dog partnership, from birth to retirement, at a staggering £55,000 we simply could not provide our services without the support of the local community.

"Our Name a Puppy scheme is a fantastic way for you to see how your fundraising has made a huge difference.”

Guide Dogs are inviting businesses, schools and groups to get in touch to find out more about their services and the Name a Puppy scheme.
