EMMERDALE actor Michael Parr is lending his support to the #NoMoreKnives campaign in memory of Danny Fox.

The 31-year-old, who grew up on Hard Lane, got in touch with Daniel’s family to offer his support with upcoming events aimed at getting knives off the streets of St Helens.

The campaign is in memory of Danny, 29, who died after he was stabbed on North John Street in the town centre in September 2016.

Leighton Holt, who walked free from court after a jury failed to reach a verdict following a retrial, had been carrying a blade.

Michael Parr, who is best known for playing Ross Barton on the ITV soap, said: “I’m proud to be a St Helens lad. I love that I came from there and I always support my hometown.

“That’s why it was such a shock when I learned what happened to Danny Fox, who I knew of but didn’t know personally.

“We have all gone out around town growing up and it’s shocking that young people now can’t feel safe because people think it’s ok to carry knives on a night out.

“That’s why I decided to support Daniel’s family because I want to help in any way I can to help people in our town feel safe.

“Daniel’s death was the first big story in our town that shocked us all in recent years involving a knife, and it sadly started off a chain of knife crime incidents in St Helens.

“That’s why I think what Daniel’s family are doing is amazing and I’ll be proud to help when I can.”

The first organised event for the campaign was held earlier this month with a sponsored bike ride from Taylor Park to either Southport and back or Whiston Hospital and back.

The family aim to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying a blade and get knife wands in venues in the town centre.
