A PHOTOGRAPH of an old football team featured in the Star has generated a large response.

Among those who got in touch was Sheila Jackson, who lives in York.

She got in touch to say: "I live in York but was born and raised in St Helens where I still have family. A cousin has just sent me a picture of a football team printed in your paper.

"I was very pleased to receive it as my father is one of the pictured players. He is Charles Edward Moore known as Ted and he is on the front row, first on the left. I am pretty sure he played for the YMCA and his brother Eric played for Everton in the 50s.

"Sadly my father died in 2014 but he played sport all his life - football, golf bowls, winning trophies in all. He also taught my two sons the rudiments of football and especially rugby as they were keen players.

"Most of his working life was spent at British Sidac, Sutton and my mother Elsie Moore worked in the welfare dept of Pilkingtons delivering hot dinners to pensioners and then in the office."
