POLICE say they have advised a cold caller who claimed to be deaf while knocking on doors trying to sell paintings to stop.

Residents across different parts of the town took to social media to report having been visited by someone who said he was deaf.

A police spokeswoman said the man was genuinely deaf and that officers have advised him to stop calling at addresses.

She said: "We were called to reports of a deaf man selling paintings on doorsteps.

"We just warned him that it was probably not the best thing to do.

"No criminal offence has been committed."
