AN up-and-coming photographer has been shortlisted to win £10,000 for a charity in her hometown.

Megan Giblin, from Haresfinch, is up for winning Huawei and Dazed magazine's Reveal the Real You photography competition with her declaring mental health organisation St Helens Mind as her chosen charity to benefit from the funds if she won.

In the last month, the 22-year-old is one of 18 young people from across the country who has been using a smartphone to take community-led photography images with three of them set to be awarded the prize for their nominated charity after a three-person judging panel makes the decision.

The photographs could cover issues such as gender equality, environmental issues, sexuality, and the impact of funding cuts in the arts with Megan choosing to raise awareness of mental health with her images.

Megan, who has just graduated with a first class degree at The University of Salford in Fashion Styling and Image Making, said: “I am thrilled to be shortlisted for such a big competition, and having followed Dazed magazine throughout my education in fashion, I know how influential the magazine is.

"The competition has given me the chance to give back to my community and, in particular, to help St Helen’s Mind continue their brilliant work."

The images from all the shortlisted candidates will appear on Huawei’s Instagram account in the coming weeks.

CMO for Huawei Europe Andrew Garrihy added: “ We are delighted our device has helped give these talented young people the chance to shine a light on the issues they care about.”

The three winners are net to be announced in the next month.
