ENGLAND'S Women, featuring a cluster of Thatto Heath St Helens players, got their World Cup campaign off to a winning start.
They ran in seven tries to win 36-8 after Papua New Guinea had taken an early lead.
England hit back shortly after with Shona Hoyle's try converted by Thatto's Tara-Jane Stanley.
The Kumuls regained the lead with centre Anne Oifua's try before Amy Hardcastle raced 90 metres for an incredible solo try.
Stanley crossed for a try from a perfectly timed cut-out pass from Lois Forsell with Charlotte Booth adding another to make it 18-8 at half-time.
With the game in the balance, Danielle Bound muscled her way over from dummy-half for a crucial try.
Booth added her second try and Beth Sutcliffe grabbed another to seal a 36-8 victory.
