TWO takeaways in Prescot have been shortlisted to be in the running to be crowned the best of the north west at a star-studded ceremony.

Brunch on Greenes Road, who have been named the region's best at the last two British Takeaway Awards, are looking to make it a hat-trick after another nomination.

Among their competition will be Hamlets Kitchen on Market Place, who are also among the five nominees who got the most public votes.

The BTAs - run in association with Just Eat - celebrate the range of cuisines and contributions that takeaway chefs and delivery drivers make to their local communities and the economy.

A star-studded national awards ceremony takes place on Monday, November 27 at The Savoy in London.

To determine the winner, each of the finalists will be marked on a mystery shopping experience, and have also been asked to provide a submission on why they deserve to win.

The panel of judges includes celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and businesswoman, former star of BBC2 Dragon’s Den, Sarah Willingham and the UK managing director of Just Eat Graham Corfield.

There will be winners for 13 regions announced and also awards for chefs and delivery drivers who go above and beyond.

Graham Corfield said: “There’s no doubt these finalists have the loyal support of their customers, who got them into the top five takeaways in the north west by public vote.

"If they’re anything like last year, these restaurants will no doubt offer great food, excellent customer service and play a vital role at the heart of their community. It’s going to be a tough choice picking the winner.”

Other north west nominees are the Grilled Hotspot, Radcliffe; Strip Health Cafe, Manchester and Theo Peppe, Rochdale.

Each regional winner receives £1,000 and a free sign up to Just Eat, or their sign-up fee returned if they are already a partner.

And one of the regional winners will then go on to be awarded Best Takeaway in Britain and receive a further cheque for £5,000.
