A 140-YEAR-OLD golf course has installed pioneering environmentally-friendly tee signs made from recycled plastic bottles.

Haydock Golf Club, in Newton-le-Willows, home of the third oldest course in Lancashire which opened in 1877, has installed the newly-launched tee signs, from Premier Golf Promotions.

The environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional wooden signs, which are made completely from recycled plastic bottles and carry a 30-year guarantee, are in place on the Par 70 course.

The signs do not absorb water and can be jet-cleaned to look like new again.

Secretary manager at Haydock Golf Club Vicki O’Brien said: “As a business we remain committed to respecting and protecting our environment, whilst providing our customers and course partners with products that not only enhance the appearance of our golf course, but last.”

And the new signs have proved popular among the regulars at the club, which has a membership of around 600.

Haydock's director of membership and marketing Ian Latto added: "They're more endurable and they don't rot in the water, they just sit there nice and pretty.

"They are on every hole and the feedback has been very positive from members."
