A FIVE-YEAR-OLD girl with cerebral palsy has won a competition to have a boat named after her.

Black Prince Narrowboat Holidays launched its own 'name the narrowboat' competition earlier this year.

The competition was shortlisted down to fifteen entrants, with fans voting on their favourite – and Michelle Atkins from Moss Bank put forward her daughter’s name ‘Jessica Ellen'.

She said: “My daughter AKA my warrior princess is named Jessica Ellen. She is my superstar, she is five and has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy and reflux disease.

“Despite all her challenges she is beautiful, clever and incredibly smiley little girl.

“Her smile literally lights up the room and this year will be her fourth holiday with Black Prince.

“She would love to have a boat named after her and I would love it as she deserves a lasting reward.”

On winning the competition she added: “We are all very excited and honoured that Jessica Ellen has won and that Black Prince has given Jessica this once in a lifetime opportunity, particularly as some of our happiest family moments have been aboard a Black Prince boat.”

The family attended the naming ceremony at the Black Prince Holidays base in Bromsgrove and the family celebrated the launch by enjoying a trip on the boat.
