A 28-YEAR-OLD St Helens man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage after a protester spent more than eight hours on the roof of College Street police station last night.
A man, wearing a red coat, clambered on to the town's main police station, at 11.30pm last night.
Graffiti was scrawled on the station and chants, containing obscenities, could be heard this morning.
A police negotiator was at the scene.
The stand off ended shortly before 9am this morning.
The partial closure of College Street led to disruption for commuters travelling to work this morning.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said:" "Patrols were made aware of a man in his 20s on the roof of St Helens Police Station at around 11.30pm last night.
"He was reported as throwing items from the roof, causing damage to the building and vehicles.
"As a safety precaution, police set up a cordon between College Street and Central Street and MFRS attended to assist.
"Officers including a force negotiator has been in attendance and the man remains on the roof at this time.
"Members of the public are asked to avoid the area while the incident is resolved."
