JOHNNY Vegas opened up about the death of his father, Laurence, when the comedian appeared on ITV’s Loose Women and praised Macmillan Cancer Research for helping the family 'accept the unacceptable'.

Johnny, whose real name is Michael Pennington, is originally from Thatto Heath and opened up after his dad’s death to cancer at Willowbrook Hospice on March 10 this year, aged 85.

The 47-year-old comedian and actor appeared on the show alongside panellists Anne Diamond, Stacey Solomon, Andrea McLean and Kaye Adams, where he revealed how he is yet to mourn the death of his death and feels 'angry at him for going as quickly as he did'.

He added how the Macmillan Nurses and Willowbrook Hospice were amazing and how he can’t thank them enough for the support that they gave his family at such a difficult time.

Speaking on the show, he said: “We are grateful for what Willowbrook did for my dad but we needed someone to come in.

“We took him to a St Helens match and we could see he was too tired and they (Macmillan) told us it’s not what we want for him it’s what he needs and they put that in a beautiful perspective.

“They helped us accept the unacceptable.

“I haven’t dealt with it, I haven’t mourned him yet, I’ve got no idea what mourning is.

“I haven’t had the cry yet. In fact, I’m angry at him for going as quickly as he did. I don’t accept his death.

“I’m angry I don’t think about him on a daily basis but I don’t want to accept he’s gone. I feel guilty that I don’t think about him on a daily basis. Things don’t go back to normal."

Johnny detailed how his father’s bladder cancer came back suddenly but that he was ‘too ill’ to have treatment with the family told his death was ‘going to be quite soon'.

He added: “We all went into a tailspin and wanted to care for him at home.

“I thought it would be two weeks of crying and then I’d go back to normal, but it doesn’t because he was such a fundamental part of his life.

“When they’re gone, there’s a gap you can’t fill.”

Many people tweeted messages of support after the show, which aired last week.

Laurence Pennington left behind his wife Patricia as well as Michael and his three other children Catharine, Robert and Mark.
