ST HELENS' Pets At Home store claims it has helped break a world record for the number of dogs bathed in 12 hours.

The Green Room at the store on Ravenhead Retail Park took part in the effort on Saturday, September 16 which saw 85 Pets At Home shops in the north region attempt to break the previous Guinness World Record of 5,000.

The store has raised £185 for Support Adoption For Pets in aid of abanconsed or unwatned animals, in the process.

With help from 37 dogs in St Helens, overall the Groom Room salon teams washed 5,468 dogs in the 12 hours, collectively raising more than £32,000 and scrubbing away the current record.

The Groom Room is awaiting official confirmation from Guinness that the world record has been broken.

Stephen Tootle , salon manager at St Helens' Groom Room, said: “Our salon team really rolled up their sleeves to wash lots of dogs and raise some valuable funds in the process.

"The in-store Vets4Pets practice also helped us fundraise on the day for Support Adoption For Pets, in addition to offering free weight and microchip checks for pets.”

"It went really well," added stylist at the store Sophie Harding.

"We did 37 dogs overall and they all got their goody bags."
