POLICE are pursuing lines of enquiry after vandals covered a children's play park in vile graffiti.

Swings, slides and climbing zones are among the play objects which were targeted in Taylor Park.

Some of the graffiti includes swear words and disgusting symbols, which are not featured on these pictures.

The images were sent to the Star by a mother-of-two who visited the park with her two sons, aged three and one, this morning.

She said: "It's disgusting. My boys love this play park and we shouldn't have to come here and be greeted with this. Some of the language and the symbols are awful.

"Many, many little ones and children come here everyday – and now it has been tainted by the stupidity of these yobs. How much is this going to cost the council to clean up?"

Police have received a number of messages in relation to the incident and are pursuing lines of enquiry.

A council spokesman confirmed the graffiti has been removed.

St Helens Council’s cabinet member for green, smart and sustainable borough, Cllr Terry Shields said: “Our attractive parks and green spaces are fantastic assets for communities across the borough and beyond, so to see them vandalised in such a mindless way is a real kick in the teeth to everyone who enjoys them.

“Our budgets are already stretched, and selfish acts like this only increase the pressure on our environmental services.

“If anyone has any information, I would urge them to come forward and contact Merseyside Police on 101, so that those responsible can be held accountable."
