SAINTS’ 2017 destiny is back in their own hands after the weekend’s results.

Wigan’s home defeat by leaders Castleford and Hull’s win against Wakefield, combined with Saints’ triumph over Huddersfield, has lifted Justin Holbrook’s men back into the top four with just one round to play.

Saints are currently ahead of Wigan on points difference.

However, Saints still need to win at Salford or they will be eliminated. There are no second chances any more.

That should earn them qualification, but mathematically Wigan would still be able to catch them on the last day if they overhauled Saints’ points difference.

Saints’ is currently +119, with Wigan’s +55.

That would mean that if Saints beat Salford, then Wigan would have to beat Wakefield by 64 points, plus the margin of Thursday night’s victory.

Should Saints lose, the victors of the Wakefield v Wigan game would qualify.

If Saints win, and Hull lose at Castleford, then Saints would climb to third and then face Leeds at Headingley in the semis.

Castleford, in that instance, would play Wigan in the other semi provided the Cherry and Whites beat Wakefield on account of their superior points difference to Hull.
