THREE food venues across St Helens including a pub and two takeaways have been given zero star food hygiene ratings.

The rankings, which are listed on the Food Standards Agency’s website, stated that The Abbey on Hard Lane, Bite 2 Go on Sutton Road and China Garden on Peckers Hill Road are all requiring ‘urgent improvement.’

The ratings, which are the lowest possible score, were published in June and July.

All three establishments are also requiring major improvement in hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition on facilities and building.

The scores are carried out by St Helens local authority hygiene teams.

However, there is a long list of top eateries with top marks from the FSA, with these 20 venues being given the highest mark, five, this year.

This means they got the best results in cleanliness and food preparation by inspectors.
