A MUM whose nine-year-old son has special needs is holding a charity car wash event to raise money for a charity which has boosted his confidence by giving him a chance to mix with others.

Helen Russiano, from Moss Bank, is holding the event at St Mary’s Social Club in Billinge on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28 from 10am till 2pm, to raise money for the Friends - Play for Disabled Children group.

The group is run on Facebook by a small number of parents with disabled children and aims to bring families of disabled children in St Helens together through events, trips, days out and to provide a support network for families to help prevent isolation.

Helen’s son Connor, who has ADHD, dyslexia, sleep deprivation and dyscalculia, has been going on trips with the group, alongside his mum – who has seen his confidence grow as well as his awareness of other people’s abilities.

Helen 45, said: “This groups has meant that he has not been isolated and has been mixing with other children and going to do fun things at the same time, like going to Alton Towers and going trampolining.

“It has also made him much more aware of himself and others and he is asking questions which I think is really positive, so I just wanted to do this to thank them and they are a charity run on donations.”

People getting their car washed on the day are asked to give a donation of their choosing and visitors can also visit the cake sale and nearly new sale.

Breakfast barms and tea and coffee will also be available.

The money raised will be split between the group and a young girl with cancer in the borough – whose family do not want to be named.
