A PET owner staged a wedding reception for two cats in a pub’s beer garden – all to raise funds and smiles for a poorly little girl.

The ceremony took place at The Windle pub on Hard Lane where Marialaina Ashcroft arranged a fundraiser for five-year-old Kaycee Bradshaw, who suffers from a rare condition called Batten disease.

The day saw Sphynx cats Christie and Lily tie the knot.

Little Kaycee – whose story has featured in the Star – was at the ceremony.

Kaycee has lost much of her mobility due to the disease, including her ability to walk. Her speech and understanding is limited.

Since hearing about her story, Star readers have been holding events to help Kaycee’s mum, Claire.

Kaycee has been undergoing an enzyme treatment to slow the effects of the condition, which does not have a cure, at London’s Great Ormond Street.

Earlier in their campaign, Kaycee’s mum Claire Bradshaw, 43, of Padeswood Close, Sutton said: “While Kaycee is with us I want to create memories that will not only make her happy but us as well.

“I am eternally grateful that we live in such a kind and giving community.

“From rugby fundraisers and skip-a-thons to head shaves and sponsored walks, everyone has been trying to help my little smiling girl. I try to thank each of them on Facebook if I can.

“Kaycee has no idea what the town has done for her but the rest of the family do, and we are utterly overwhelmed. From the bottom of our hearts we thank everyone.

“I feel totally in awe of the people in this town, they’ve made my little girl a mini celebrity.”

Batten Disease is a disorder of the nervous system that usually begins in childhood. The first symptom is usually progressive vision loss followed by personality and behavioural changes and seizures.
