MUM-of-two Laura Graham says she was devastated when her first-born had to spend three weeks in ICU as a tiny baby.

The 24-year-old gave birth to Keyah, now aged five, two weeks early by emergency caesarian section due to placental abruption.

Keyah was deprived of oxygen for four minutes and was left severely disabled and brain damaged, says Laura, from Fingerpost.

Now Laura, who is a full-time carer and also has 18-month-old son Jacob, says she wants to raise funds for Alder Hey Children's Hospital after they "saved Keyah's life".

She said: "Keyah has cerebral palsy; she can't sit unaided, can't walk and can't talk.

"She is registered blind and profoundly deaf, but considering the situation, she is a happy-go-lucky girl and loves playing with her little brother.

"She loves music, especially Ed Sheeran.

"Alder Hey have been amazing with Keyah, she has had countless admissions to Alder Hey and countless outpatient appointments and that is why I want to raise as much money as I can for the amazing hospital which saved my daughter's life."

Laura said as a newborn, Lansbury Bridge pupil Keyah was transferred from Whiston Hospital to Alder Hey, where she had kidney dialysis and feeding tubes put in.

She added: "It was a terrible, traumatic time. As a young mother - I was only 19 - I was very scared. Later on, her teeth were all taken out due to the medication rotting them. She has a low blood count and routine iron infusions.

"But Alder Hey were and are amazing and that's why I want to raise money for them - they deserve it."

Laura is organising a fun day at The Rockware, on Shaw Street, to raise money for The Alder Hey Children's Charity.

There will be a bouncy castle, DJ, face painting, buffet, raffles and an opportunity to make a donation.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 24 from noon to 5pm, with a £1 entry cost.
