A 24-YEAR-OLD man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in connection with a shooting in Kirkby last week.

Police received reports that shots were fired on Monday night last week (July 17).

Officers were called to Wyllin Road at its junction with Mintor Road at around 10pm to reports a man had shot a firearm in the street.

Following a search of the premises at Windfield Close in Moorfields, Kirkby last Wednesday officers have recovered what is believed to be a handgun.

The 24-year-old man from St Helens has been arrested in connection with the firearms discharge.

He is currently being interviewed by detectives.

Following the incident last Monday, it is alleged the offender got out of a dark-coloured small saloon car, similar to a Ford Focus, and shot in the direction of a silver car also on Wyllin Road.

Detective Inspector Jason Pye said: "The investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is in its early stages, but we believe this was a targeted attack.

“I would appeal to people in the community who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area around Wyllin Road and Mintor Road shortly before, or after the incident to contact us. Information they have could help bring the people responsible to justice.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the dark-coloured small saloon car or the silver car around the time of the incident.”

Meanwhile, Adam Bigley, 24, of Windfield Close, Kirkby has been charged with possession of a Section One firearm in connection with the incident and was due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Friday (July 21).
