A SECONDARY school held a week of activities and events to continue its “proactive approach” towards mental health.

Students and staff at Rainford High took part to promote wellbeing – and mark Mental Health Week.

Numerous activities were held such as sports, Lego therapy, staff health checks, mindfulness sessions, arts and crafts, baking and therapy dogs.
A sensory room and an outdoor tent provided a relaxing area for staff.

Positive broadcasts over the school’s radio station were also aired.

Meanwhile, services such as CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), Barnardo’s and Healthy Living hosted a marketplace where students and staff could find out what support is available.

Pupils also released balloons with personalised messages attached, as a symbolic way of letting go of their worries and donated groceries to a food bank.

Ian Young, Rainford High principal, said: “As a school we have been developing a proactive approach towards mental health and wellbeing for the last couple of years.

“Being part of the emotionally healthy schools project has supported the change in the way students and staff look at their own and each other’s mental health and how everyone can support each other.

“This week has allowed us to show students and staff the simple and fun things that can be built into our everyday lives to boost our wellbeing.”
