'GIVE it to Grace' may sound more like a 1970s sitcom than a terrace chant, but ever since the Welsh flier erupted into the first team on Good Friday those words have not been far from the lips of the expectant supporters.

There is a tremor of excitement every time Saints move the ball left, but increasingly they have been followed by murmurs of disappointment when it does not end up in the hands of Regan Grace.

It is understandable; supporters brought up on seeing Messrs Vollenhoven, Jones, Ledger, Sullivan and Albert running them in down the flanks are eager for the 20-year-old to follow in their rapid footsteps.

Increasingly the pressure is building on centre Mark Percival to release his man, and there were audible groans from the stands in the first half against Catalans when the England international cut inside and was ankle tapped rather than winging it.

But coach Justin Holbrook backed his centre to make the right calls and wants him to continue making his own judgment based on what is in front of him and stacked up on Grace.

Holbrook said: “Percy is a great player, but Regan is getting marked pretty heavily given how dangerous he is.

“There was a game a few weeks ago (against Castleford) where Percy passed it, but had he dummied he would have scored.

“It all depends on the way the defence are defending and a lot of them are sliding off one and on to Regan.

“If they were jamming on Percy and Regan was unmarked I would expect him to pass.

“Percy is skilful enough to take the right options.

“Regan is continually turning up and he will get some chances and score some tries for us.

“It is great that the fans want the ball in the hands of an exciting player like Regan - he is dangerous when he gets the ball and is lightning quick. But I am just as happy when Percy has got the ball in his hands.

“Both he and Ryan Morgan are playing well and the more ball we can get in their hands the better we are going to be.”

Grace is fit after coming off feeling ill towards the back end of the Catalans game following his length of the field chase back on Richie Myler.
