THE funeral of Winstanley College student Ellen Higginbottom who was found dead at Orrell Water Park will take place today.

Eighteen-year-old Ellen Higginbottom was found dead at Orrell Water Park in the early hours of June 17. 

A service in memory of Ellen takes place at Altrincham Crematorium at noon today and all who knew her are welcome to attend.

Ellen's body was found hours after family reported her missing and a social media appeal had been launched to find her.

A post-mortem examination found that Ellen had died from severe neck injuries.

Mark Steven Buckley, 51, of New Hall Lane, Preston, has been charged with Ellen's murder and after an appearance at Manchester Crown Court was remanded in custody until a hearing on September 4.

Dean Speakman and Vicki Calland, both 30, of Cob Moor Avenue, Billinge, both pleaded guilty to the charge of handling stolen goods and perverting the course of justice and will be sentenced at a later date.

David Steele, 47, of Oakley Avenue, Billinge, charged with perverting the course of justice and handling stolen goods, also appeared in court and was remanded into custody to appear on September 4.
