A RECORD turnout of more than 330 adults and children put on their running shoes on Sunday for an annual race held in memory of a little angel.

The Grind 5 was the event's third staging since its return, hosted by the Isabella Rose Foundation, which was launched by couple Geoff Parr and Amanda Pope who went through the heartbreak of losing a child.

Isabella was stillborn after 31 weeks in 2011 leading to parents Geoff Parr and Amanda Pope to launch the charity.

Adults took on the five-mile run while youngsters tackled the kids' 1k dash, with all receiving a medal and goody bag and adults also got a technical tee shirt.

The race also paid tribute to Violet-Grace Youens along Prescot Road, who was a pupil at Eccleston Mere Primary School, where the race started and finished. Her parents Glenn and Becky took part in the race.

The top finishers among the men were Jon-Jo Doherty, of the St Helens Striders, Steven Anders of Sutton AC and Daniel Cheetham.

The top three ladies were Kelly Hamilton, Carmel Triggs and Amy Corefield.

David Pope, Isabella's granddad and one of the organisers, said: "Everyone at the Isabella Rose Running Club and the Foundation are overwhelmed with the turn out and would like to thank all runners, all 80 volunteers, and our sponsors for taking part and making this event a success.

"It was fantastic to see people coming together from the local community and beyond and to see their happy faces as they crossed the finish line especially the children.

"Without the help and support of Adam Westhead of Qualitas Kitchens, in Dentons Green, we could not put on this event.

"We also would like to thank the local residents and business along the route for their cooperation and understanding. without your help and support this event could not happen.

"It's really hard to put into words all the hard work that goes into this event and how proud we are that everyone appears to have a great time and the feedback has been amazing."
