COMEDIAN Johnny Vegas posted his support for the next Doctor Who actor, Jodie Whittaker, on social media.
It was announced yesterday (Sunday) that Whittaker is next in line to play the time lord - and will be the 13th actor - and first woman - to take on the role.
Yorkshire-born Whittaker, 35, who is best known for her role as a grieving mother in Broadchurch, will take over from Peter Capaldi in the 2017 Christmas special.
This morning, St Helens comedian Johnny Vegas posted a Tweet saying: 'To hardcore fans, the new #doctorwho14 is the doctor. Accept her or move out of your parents' garage and apply your rage to gainful employment.'
This came after the announcement the next doctor would be a female sparked controversy, dividing opinion amongst die-hard fans.

The leading role in the science fiction show, which started in 1963, has been played by William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi.
Johnny's Tweet prompted a number of responses, including a few pointing out that Whittaker would be the 13th, not the 14th, doctor, to which Johnny replied: 'Ha! Star Wars myself.'
