WE want to hear your stories of courage, achievement, talent and inspiration after nominations for the Solar King Pride of St Helens Awards 2017 opened.

Organisers have confirmed the annual ceremony will take place on Friday, November 10 at the Totally Wicked Stadium, home of Saints RLFC.

The Star and the Steve Prescott Foundation have again joined forces for the awards, which are in their sixth year.

The aim is to continue showcasing talent and raise aspiration across the borough.

Star readers can submit entries via the newspaper’s website and a judging panel will sit later in the year to choose winners.

Star editor Andrew Kilmurray, said: "St Helens people are fiercely proud and passionate of their town and genuinely care about its fortunes, which contributes to us having such a strong sense of identity and community.

"But we still need to look to raise aspiration and give people the confidence to shout loud and proud about their achievements and success stories.

"It has been heartening to see business leaders pulling together this year and setting out their desire to create a vision for a brighter St Helens that is optimistic and confident of conveying a positive image of itself. Hopefully that unified approach will spur more people on to submit nominations."

Martin Blondel, general manager of the SPF, said: “The Solar King Pride of St Helens Awards have shone a light on some amazing stories and achievements since its inception in 2012.

"But receiving the nominations is a critical part of the process - and we urge people to take the time to tell us who should be a deserving winner."

Nominations, which can be made via the Star's website, will close on September 8.
