A 13-YEAR-OLD girl has won a scholarship to Liverpool John Moores University as part of her winning prize in a regional Dot Art competition.

Sutton Academy pupil Erin Gerrard won the top prize after entering her artwork, titled Intergalactic, into the competition, competing with schools across the region.

The Year 9 pupil won the secondary school category, after her work was judged while on display at St Georges Hall, Liverpool.

Among her prizes are a scholarship to dot-art where she can showcase her work, tickets to see the latest exhibition at Tate Liverpool, £50 worth of Rennies Art Supplies vouchers, the scholarship for LJMU and £250 worth of arts vouchers for her school.

She said: “I feel so honoured to win the Dot Art competition and so grateful to my art teachers and everyone who has helped me.

“I also want to say well done to everyone else that entered.”

Her art teacher, Rebecca Mullin said: “The Sutton Academy Art department are immensely proud and thrilled with Erin's recent achievement at St Georges, Dot Art competition.

“She is currently working towards her GCSE in Art and Design and we have no doubt she will have a bright future in the creative industry.

“This is the first year that I have entered The Sutton Academy into the Dot Art competition, it has been a fantastic opportunity for all Year 9 students to showcase their creative skills.”

Erin’s work, alongside the other contestants, will be on display at the hall until Saturday, July 1.
