CREWS were called after a skip fire broke out at a glass cord manufacturers last night.

Firefighters were called to the base of NGF Europe on Lea Green Road, Sutton Manor at around 9.30pm.

Three fire engines attended the incident, which saw a skip on fire within the site.

Residents nearby had taken to social media after seeing smoke coming out of the premises.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to assess the fire, which had partially been extinguished by an internal foam sprinkler system.

"They used a main jet to extinguish the remainder of the fire. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for areas of heat.

"No-one was injured. A room within the factory was partially damaged by fire and heat."

She added: "Crews remained at the scene for around one hour and 40 minutes."
