Shortly after noon the 99 Whiston Circular, which is run by Hatton's Travel, smashed into the wall on Cross Lane.

A North West Ambulance spokeswoman added: "We received a call at 12.22pm to report a road traffic collision involving a bus.

"We took two rapid response vehicles and an ambulance to the scene. We have taken one patient to Whiston Hospital."

A statement from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters stabilised the bus and cordoned off the road to make the scene safe.

"They assisted paramedics in making sure all passengers on the bus were safe.
