A COMMUNITY walk will take place in Eccleston and Windle today as part of The Great Get Together.

Brendan Cox, widower of MP Jo Cox, has asked that communities celebrate her life and memory by getting together.

Eccleston Community Residents Association(ECRA), with Windle, have planned a Community Walk on Saturday, June 17 to mark the day.

They say the event aims to bring "our communities together to defend the Greenbelt" which could be developed in the future.

The group says the walk is a community event.

Residents are asked to meet at 1pm at either the Griffin Inn, Church Lane or Walmesley Road shops from where they will walk around the proposed developments and meet back at the Griffin.

The Windle route is – Broadway, Bleak Hill, Calderhurst, Lynton Way, Portreath, Padstow, Crantock, A580, over the fields to Houghtons Lane, Springfield Lane, Church Lane, Griffin.

The Eccleston route is – Griffin, Burrows Lane, Catchdale Moss, Howards Lane, Springfield Lane, Church Lane, Griffin.

Eccleston Community Residents Association(ECRA), with Windle, has asked the Star to underline this a community event.

A spokesman said: "The walk is a community get together to celebrate that we have more in common than that which divides us - echoing Jo Cox and her wonderful example.

"In our case, people of all political persuasions and none, coming together to appreciate our greenbelt."
