THE HEARTBROKEN parents of Violet-Grace Youens are encouraging others to sign up to the organ donor register after their daughter helped save two lives.

Glenn and Becky Youens, from Eccleston, whose four-year-old daughter died following the hit-and-run collision on Prescot Road on Friday, March 24, made the brave decision to donate her kidneys and pancreas to others in need.

The couple, who also have a one-year-old son Oliver, said: “Violet was a little superhero and saved two lives; and could have saved more, but unfortunately due to her extensive injuries was unable.

“However, she is our little superstar and we are so proud of her.

“We love and miss her so much each day, but the comfort it has brought us as a family that's she lives on in others, has helped us with the grieving process and given us a focus.

“The knowledge that her recipients are getting better day by day is just amazing and Violet is an inspiration to all.

“Organ donation is an important discussion to have with your loved ones as you are more likely to need a transplant in your lifetime than you are to donate organs.

“It is the massive gift of life that you can give to others in need, you'd be surprised the difference it can make as a grieving family.

“If you feel it's right for you, then sign up to the organ donor register, but be sure to have the conversation with your loved ones about your wishes.

“Please let this be Violet-Grace's legacy. #violetsgift #allorgandonorsaresuperheroes.”

Meanwhile the parents are encouraging the community to come out in force to support a fundraising event in their daughter’s memory.

Glenn and Becky have been “so touched and blown away by the love and support” from the community and have been helping to organise an event alongside others, to raise money for the hospitals that tried to save their daughter’s life.

The motorcycling and cycling event, called Ride 4 Violet-Grace, has been a “positive focus” for the family, with more than 300 people expected to take part wearing superhero costumes or the colour violet on Sunday, July 9.

The event will start at noon at the Totally Wicked Stadium, where motorcyclists will bike it to both Whiston Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Push bike cyclists will also travel to Whiston Hospital and back, with the aim for all riders to return together.

The event will also feature a family fun day including bouncy castles, trampolines and face-painting for children at the Saint’s ground as a celebration of Violet-Grace’s life, as well as offering information about organ donation and how to register.
