WATER supplies have returned to normal today (Tuesday) after a pipe burst in a field in Moss Bank yesterday (Monday).

Hundreds of households in the Carr Mill and Laffak areas experienced no water or low water pressure following the incident, which happened at around 1pm in a field near Rydal Grove.

United Utilities received around 100 phone calls from affected residents.

A United Utilities spokesman said they provided alternative water sources for customers while repairing the pipe, which they completed in the early hours of this morning.

A spokesman said: "Our team completed the repairs in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

"We had a burst on a water main which provides water to parts of the WA11 area of St Helens.

"A re-zone, which basically means moving water around our network to bypass the damaged pipe restored customers' supplies and we used our water-on-wheels tankers to support the network, whilst we completed the repair."

He added: "Some customers during yesterday evening may have noticed the water pressure was lower than usual. We apologise for any disruption."
