A 29-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after a large police presence was called to a roadside.

The incident unfolded on Parr Stocks Road, St Helens, last night, Thursday 18 May.

The man was stopped by police officers at 10.55pm and subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs and assaulting a police officer.

A police spokesman said: "An investigation is ongoing."

At least five police vehicles were called to a road last night, where witnesses say a man was detained by officers.

Onlookers say a man appeared to be held on the floor off Parr Stocks Road, Parr.

Officers were then seen searching a grass verge near a petrol station using an unmarked car and torches.
