A MAN who was arrested in connection with an assault in an Ashton-in-Makerfield bar which left a man in a critical condition has been released while an investigation continues.

In the early hours of last Friday (May 12) a 30-year-old man was left fighting for his life after sustaining a serious head injury in the Plantation Bar and Grill on Wigan Road.

Shortly before 2.30am police were alerted to the man who was found on the floor with a serious wound to his head, who was taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said the man is now "in a critical but stable condition".

Detectives investigating the circumstances around him sustaining the injury believe the man was assaulted.

Later on Friday, a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

A police spokesman stated he has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue. 

Detective Inspector Richard Thompson said: “We understand people have mobile footage which could help us with our enquiries.

“We would ask anyone that does to get in touch, as well anyone who might have witnessed anything.”
