EXCITEMENT is building ahead of the Rainford’s first Picnic in the Park music festival next month, which is being headlined by The Voice winner Kevin Simm.

Former Liberty X band member Kevin, who won the talent show in 2016 after returning to the limelight, will be singing at the event on Jubilee Recreation Fields on Church Road in Rainford on Saturday, June 3.

Picnic in the Park is a collaboration between Rainford Rangers Football Club, Rainford Tennis Club, Rainford Cricket Club and Rainford Boys Brigade and Girls Association.

The four organisations provide sporting, community and adventure opportunities for the youngsters from the village and surrounding areas.

Other acts include SisterJ, the Shane Nolan band, led by Coleen Nolan and Shane Ritchie’s son, tribute band Chasing Crows and Titors Insignia.

Festival organisers Phil and Tara Thomas, whose family are involved in all the organisations, brought everyone together with the aim of creating a fun event.

“It’s something we have thought about for a while” said Phil.

“All the clubs have a common goal and do lots for the kids so we have got together to provide what we hope will be a great day for the village. With the help of a top event company and the excellent support of the Parish and St Helens Councils we are ready to go."

Tickets costing £20 can be purchase online at rainfordfestival.co.uk and the event will run from 1pm until 10.30pm, with limited places for children. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
